About

Suits & Startups is a website and community connecting entrepreneurs and professionals.

S&S was founded in October 2016 by Foong and Mills, two City professionals turned startup founders, on a mission to bring together the individuals behind the biggest corporates and the entrepreneurs creating the ‘next big things’. We believe that, by joining together these two networks, great things can happen - connections can be made and new ideas generated.

We took our first big step towards bringing the S&S community to life when we hosted our first ever event in August 2018 - themed around 'Disruption' and attended by a mix of around 50 city professionals and entrepreneurs.

Events for our Members and guests have a real community-feel, allowing for open conversation. We feature talks by founders and subject specialists, and provide startups and corporates with an opportunity to showcase and receive feedback on their products and services.

When we’re not hosting, you can find us out and about in London, attending events, tech and pitch days, conferences, product launch parties and startup taster sessions, as well as meeting and interviewing inspiring founders, and sharing their stories with you on our website (along with exclusive deals and discounts for all our Members).

We’ve also helped startups to arrange workshops and focus groups with our professional network (their target market), and are always happy to share ideas and helpful contacts over a tea or coffee. Just get in touch!

You can contact us here, follow our story on Instagram @suits_and_startups and, to be first to hear about our latest content, future events and exclusive offers, sign up here to become a Member and join the S&S mailing list.

Foong & Mills

Foong was born in London and spent her formative years in French schools in London and Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. After graduating from Cambridge in 2005 with a double degree in Law with French Law she joined PwC as a graduate where she became a Director specialising in tax structuring for real estate and private equity funds. In 2019, Foong left PwC to become the founder of a social impact startup. In 2014, Foong founded a blog, Suit & Pie , documenting her professional journey at PwC and interviewing inspiring leaders and entrepreneurs. The blog accumulated over 20,000 reads in its first year and even landed Foong with a gig as a Judge at the Editorial Intelligence Comment Awards! As Foong's network grew, she found herself drawn towards startups and the drive and tenacity of their founders, and hopes to share their stories with more people in the City through Suits & Startups. By bringing together people with such varied experience, outside of their normal networks, she truly believes the S&S community can create some great things together!

Mills qualified as a Chartered Accountant at PwC and spent 5 years specialising in real estate deals - initially working in stressed and distressed situations, before moving into transactions, where he advised some of the World’s leading PE houses and other institutional investors. In 2015, after providing ad-hoc business and accounting advice to some friends, he was invited to join them as a co-founder of a craft beer startup. This sowed the startup seed for Mills and led him to thinking about how entrepreneurs and experienced professionals could become better connected and collaborate more. Then he met Foong, their ideas combined and Suits & Startups was born. Mills took a sabbatical from PwC in January 2017 and spent most of the subsequent 2 years overseas, including 5 months living in New Zealand, where he provided operations and administrative support to a small yachting business. Since returning to the UK, Mills has been working on turning his passion for entrepreneurship and innovation into a full-time vocation and recently co-founded Hatchery , which seeks to provide rural businesses with high-quality, flexible workspace.
